The Way of the Stick
Jôdô does not include competition or free fighting. Through the study of kata, the practitioner benefits from a traditional system of physical, technical and mental education.
After studying the basics of handling the stick alone, the beginner studies these bases with an opponent armed with a wooden saber (bokken). It then undertakes the study of the 7 series of prearranged forms (kata), the rhythm and content of which are specific and closely related to the progressive system of education which is the richness of this tradition.
